TAP

Tap anywhere to cycle your ball through four colors: red, cyan, gold, green. The switch is instant, which means a mistimed tap mid-ring just kills you. No lives. No checkpoints.

DODGE

Your ball rises on its own. The rings spin; you pass through the gap that matches your current color. Get it wrong once and the run is over. Levels add more colors and faster rotation to make sure that keeps happening.

COMBO

Each clean pass through a ring builds your combo counter. Hit 10, 25, or 50 and the coin multiplier at level end goes up to 1.5×, 2×, 3×. Graze a ring edge and trigger a near-miss, though, and the counter resets. That part catches most people off guard.

Every day at midnight UTC, a new challenge seeds globally. Everyone plays the same ring sequence that day, one attempt, scored against everyone else's. Results post to the global daily leaderboard and reset after 24 hours.

Why it's used

To link your scores and achievements to a persistent player identity. When you sign in, the game reads your display name and player ID to post your score to the global leaderboard and unlock achievements on your Google Play profile. No email address or contacts are accessed. You can play all 100 levels anonymously — sign-in only enables leaderboard submissions and achievements.

Google AdMob

Why it's used

The game is free because it runs ads. AdMob serves banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads using your device's advertising ID to select relevant ads. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland a consent dialog appears before any personalized ads run — you can opt for non-personalized ads without affecting gameplay. Opting out does not remove ads; it removes behavioral targeting.

Firebase

Why it's used

Four Firebase services run in the background: anonymous authentication (a pseudonymous session token — no Google account required), Firestore (stores leaderboard scores and your coin balance), Crashlytics (captures crash reports to fix bugs), and Remote Config (lets the developer tune game parameters without an app update). No personally identifiable data is collected beyond what you voluntarily submit to the leaderboard.

About the Game

A reflex game with one rule.

Don't Touch Red is a free Android game where a ball rises automatically through spinning rings. Tap to cycle the ball's color through four options (red, cyan, gold, green) and pass through the ring segment that matches. Touch the wrong segment and the run ends immediately; the game is built around very short loops, with restarts taking under half a second.

The scoring also has a combo layer. Each clean pass increments a counter; graze a ring edge and it resets. At 10, 25, and 50, the coin multiplier at level completion steps to 1.5×, 2×, then 3×. That multiplier applies to coins only; ring points accumulate separately regardless. Every 10 levels a new tier starts, adding a color and ramping up rotation speed; each completed tier adds another ring to the screen.

The daily challenge gives every player worldwide the same fixed-seed ring sequence for that day, one attempt, scored against everyone else's run. Scores go to a live global leaderboard through Firebase. Visual themes (Cyberpunk, Synthwave, Ocean Depths, Fire & Ice, and others) change the ball, rings, background, and UI palette. They're all cosmetic. No timers, no energy bars, no pay-to-win.

Dev Note

“The near-miss combo reset was added in week three of playtesting. Without it, a clean run felt cheap; you could graze every ring and still get an S. I wanted every tier to hurt a little more than the last, and the combo to feel like something you could actually lose. Every ring modifier in the game is there because at least one playtester told me the previous version was too forgiving.”
